There are many different types of velvet, but all velvet fabrics have one thing in common: they have a noticeably soft pile on the surface and an elegant shine.

Depending on the sewing project, the following categories of velvet fabrics must be distinguished:

• Furniture velvet: You can sew decorative cushions, curtains or use it for upholstery.
• Crushed velvet: It is inexpensive and versatile and is ideal for sewing costumes at carnival or for stage performances.
  
• Stretch velvet or cotton velvet: Here you will find the right fabric for chic clothing and elegant evening wear.
